La Rioja mountain ranges footpath (GR-93)

Stage 6, Laguna de Cameros - San Román de Cameros

  • 5 h 53 min
  • 15.86 km

Cameros Lake (00 min) Start at the square in front of the church. Border it on the left and take a path that comes from the back of the church. At the beginning, the path runs along the walls of the estates and there are several side crossroads. You will arrive at some threshing floors that dominate the cemetery on the right, from where a trail emerges. Leave the town, go in northwest direction and take the old road to Tejada. You will go up a smooth slope with a brief zigzag and you will arrive at a hill you can see at a distance. Collado de Ribacito (25 min) View of Cabezón de Cameros. Descend among steppes and see at a distance the pens of Tejada. The path enters a river bed with flat stones; it continues among oaks and, after zigzagging, arrives at the Tejada River. Tejada River (39 min) Wade across the river and continue on a flat path that runs parallel to the river. A little before reaching Tejada, you will descend a flooded ravine and, when you exit it, you will be at the pastures that surround the Solar. Solar de Tejada (52 min) Shield on the house of the Solar and fountain. Start by going along the edge of the facade with the shield and take the path parallel to the river. A little after, the oaks give way to needle furzes. Take the slope to access a by-path and continue to the right until you arrive at the top of the Majadillas Ravine. Where the by-path ends, turn left and take the old path that goes directly towards the ravine, where you will find a gate. Majadillas Ravine (1 h 15 min) After the fence, wade across the channel and turn right to go up a path among needle furzes, leaving a pen on the left. The path ascends on the hillside bordering walls and slopes of old estates, towards the north and using the pens of Argayo as a reference in the distance. To the right you can see the Atalaya and Nido Cuervo Mountains and the villages of Hornillos and Torremuña on clear days. Go along a pen on the right and pass under others; continue ascending until you reach the hill over which the path goes. Collado de Argayo (1 h 49 min) You will see Muro and the Valley of the Tejada River. Descend several steep zigzags towards the Muro Stream. Before reaching the end, exit the old path by turning right to a by-path and access the stream. Muro Stream (1 h 58 min) Wade across the stream and continue to the right. Wade another ravine that goes down from Muro. The path, among estates, has a steep ascent. After a crossing a path on the left, you will arrive at the first houses, near a waste dump, where you turn left to arrive at the City council. Muro en Cameros (2 h 13 min) From the City council, go up the village towards the church, where there is a wide path to the road. Before reaching the road, take the detour to the right and cross the road. Continue straight and take the old path to Torre. A little after, ignore a path on the left and continue among hedges and fields until you reach a hill with a water registry. Hill (2 h 29 min) Descend on a by-path to the road to Torre, crossing a flooded area that is avoided by detouring to the right. Over the road, zigzag over a slope and cross the road. Continue straight to keep descending on another by-path towards the Matamanco Ravine, where there is also a flooded area. Matamanco Ravine (2 h 38 min) Wade the channel and ascend on a steep by-path until you reach the fence that divides the municipal districts of Muro and Torre. After the gate, the path becomes smoother and, after a wide zigzag, you will enter the meadow of Torre and arrive at a hill with a path crossing. Hill of the meadow of Torre (2 h 57 min) Leave the road on the left; descend towards the north following the telephone posts. Keep Torre to the right. At the end you will arrive at a ravine. Berunda Ravine (3 h 10 min)
