Ezcaray (00 min) Start at the City council, in Avenida de Navarra, and go towards Valdezcaray. Cross the bridge over the Oja River and, in front of the old railroad station, turn left. At the end of the park fence, turn right and take a trail. Ignore the path on the right, cross a bridge and border a pavilion. Turn right and continue walking among orchards and fields. Ignore a path on the left and a pavilion to the right. After the pavilion, the trail becomes a path not suitable for cars. Path (22 min) Ascend smoothly on the path to Turza, always parallel to the river. You will see pine and beech forests on the right hillside, with some fir and larch trees in between. The path is followed by poplar groves and hazelnut tree forests, as well as other species such as maples, cherry trees, willows, hawthorn, etc. When you reach Turza, continue up towards the church. Turza (1 h 16 min) In this village of Ezcaray, with some open houses, there is a fountain that can be found following a street that starts in front of the church to the right. Continue up the street and exit the village. You will arrive at a trail that is started a few metres to the right. Then, take the path to the left to the hill. Ascend by going around walls of abandoned fields. There are some steep stretches. You will reach a fence in the boundary mark with Ojacastro, where you should turn right. After a small zigzag, access the hill Collado de Larrizabala through a gate. Collado de Larrizabala (1 h 37 min) You will see a panoramic view of the Turza and Ciloria Rivers’ Valleys. Cross the gate, turn right and descend following the fence. There are great views of the Espardaña River Valley and Pazuengos in the distance. After about 500 metres, leave the fence and continue down an old path until you reach a spring that floods the path. Go up the slope and continue descending parallel to the stream between pastures. After about 4 minutes, go back to the path and take a small detour to the right. Cross a trail and continue down the path going along the edge of the walls of the fields until you reach the Espardaña River at the end of the valley. Espardaña River (2 h 03 min) Cross the gauging station over the river and continue down a trail. Ignore the path to the right until you reach a gate. After the gate, wade across a stream and you will reach a wide trail where you turn right and ascend. You will be above the Espardaña River Valley and see fields and pine forests. On the right you will see a beech grove. Go up the slope, ignore a path on the right with a gate and access a flat stretch with good views over the Ebro Valley. You will sight the Obarenes, the Toloño Mountains and the Cantabria Mountains in the distance. Following the flat path among fields, you will reach Pazuengos. Pazuengos (2 h 31 min) Exit the village behind the church. You will pass a fountain and continue in the direction of a stream with a gate. Cross the gate and take the hillside path to the left, which is over the Pazuengos Ravine. After bordering a beech grove, you will reach a hill. Collado del Rebollar (3 h 04 min) View of the La Demanda Mountains at the source of the Cárdenas River. In the same direction as you were walking, cross the hill and take a path among Pyrenean oaks that smoothly descends on the hillside. You will do a small zigzag and continue on the hillside until you reach a fence with a pedestrian crossing on the municipal limit of Pazuengos. Boundary mark Pazuengos-San Millán (3 h 25 min) After passing the fence you will see the Valley of San Millán with the Moncalvillo Mountains in the distance. Descend on a steep fire lane towards a hill where you can see, on the left, the village of Ollora and, on the right, a small valley where you can find the path to Lugar del Río. Go down towards the right in zigzag and then turn left to the hillside until you reach another hill. Hill (3 h 35 min) If you look to the left from the hill, you can get a good view of San Millán and the Yuso Monastery.
