Hervías is a municipality in the autonomous region of La Rioja. It is in the district of Santo Domingo de la Calzada, at the point where the Oja and Najerilla Rivers meet. The main activity is farming, although some inhabitants commute daily to work in nearby towns.
-Location: It is part of the district of Santo Domingo. The village is between the Oja
and Najerilla Rivers, where the landscape is flat and slopes slightly towards the River Ebro.
-Area: 13.9 km2.
-Height: 655 metres.
-Economy: The economy's base is farming, particularly grain. Pigs are also farmed.
What to visit
Parish Church of La Asunción, where the baptismal certificate of the Marquis of La Ensenada is kept. The church was built in several stages between the 16th and 19th centuries. It consists of a single nave with four covered sections of crossed vaults on semicircular arches supported by Tuscan columns, transept and rectangular chancel. In addition, two images stand out: one of San Bartolomé (16th c.) and another one of the Virgen del Rosario (posterior and Romanist), as well as a Mannerist crucifix and the processional cross.
