On the first day, you could follow the St James' Way as it crosses La Rioja. You can start in Logroño, although I would suggest that you leave at least one evening to get to know the capital and, particularly, to enjoy the popular cuisine of the Calle Laurel (the most visited location in La Rioja)

D. Joaquín Baldomero Fernández-Espartero Álvarez de Toro, conocido como Baldomero Espartero, fue una de las grandes figuras de la historia de España durante el siglo XIX. Nacido en Granátula de Calatrava, Ciudad Real, en 1793, alcanzó el grado de general en su carrera militar. Tuvo un protagonismo fundamental en la victoria de la Primera Guerra Carlista, llegando a ser denominado ‘El Pacificador”.

El partido progresista liberal patrimonializó su figura y como político desempeñó el cargo de Regente de España durante la minoría de edad de Isabel II, entre 1840 y 1843. Tras unos años de exilio en Inglaterra, durante el Bienio Progresista (1854-1856), llegó a ser presidente del Consejo de Ministros. Incluso tras la revolución de 1868, que supuso el derrocamiento de Isabel II, se le ofreció la Corona de España. Espartero, que ya estaba retirado en Logroño, rechazó en 1870 dicha propuesta.

Aldeanueva de Ebro is a municipality in La Rioja that is part of the Alfaro district. It is 10 kilometres from Calahorra and 65 kilometres from Logroño. The municipality dates back to the 11th century, when it was settled by shepherds from the Cameros region and from Calahorra following Calahorra's recapture by King García Sánchez III of Nájera in 1045. It was a village belonging to Calahorra until 1664, during the reign of Felipe IV, when the friars at the Fitero Monastery, which was linked to the village, lent the villagers a significant amount of money and it became an independent town. Following many claims, the village then called Arnedo de Ebro was handed to Manuel Íñiguez of Arnedo.

-Height: 343 metres.
-Economy: The main activity is grain and grape growing, although other fruits and vegetables are also farmed and these products have resulted in a large canning industry.
