A wine tourism day

tipo de documento Articles

Our suggestion to enjoy a day around wine and culture begins in the Vivanco Museum of the Culture of Wine, in the town of Briones. This museum is an essential visit to learn how wine is made, aged and distributed. Learn all sorts of trivia about this product and discover the amazing influence of wine in cultures across the world.

Do not leave La Rioja without enjoying a walk through the vineyards, which have such special characteristics at each time of the year. If you wish you can hire the services of a guide who will explain the grape growing tasks while you walk between the vineyards. You can even get to know the vineyards by bicycle, on horseback, from a canoe or from a hot-air balloon. There are several companies in La Rioja which offer these services.

Aldeanueva de Ebro

We intend to cater to tourists who want to have fun and enjoy their free time while they learn about wine culture in La Rioja and everything around it, so they can take fond memories of our land back with them.

During the tours, we provide technical information on how the vines are grown and grapes work to achieve the different types of wine we produce organically.

We also want to convey the love and tradition that has been part of this culture for centuries and which allows the wine to be something so special.

Combining these two concepts in the visit, we will learn what insect pheromone mating disruption is, what is pant homoeopathy, and how some insects and plants help us to maintain balance in the land in a natural way.

If children come to visit, we will show them where rabbits burrow, because we have lots of rabbits in our land! and they will also see the insect hotels that we place in the fields in winter so they can make their nests.

Whichever day you choose, it will always be practical and informative, and you will learn something new, whether you are young or old.

Winery and vineyard activities:

Wine-Plus: Tour of the Museum and historic wine cellar with a tasting of 3 wines and a sausage and cheese dish. Duration 1,5 h Price per person €10

Vine-Plus: Walk in the vineyard followed by a tour of the Museum and historic wine cellar with a tasting of 3 wines and a sausage and cheese dish. Duration 2 h Price per person €15

Vine-Action: Activity to be carried out in the vineyard depending on the season (pruning, thinning, picking, etc.) Depending on the weather, a snack will be served in the field. Then we will go to the wine museum and historic winery to visit and taste the wines. Duration 2,5 h Price per person €25

All activities included a free child up to age 15, subsequent children pay a €2 supplement. After age 16 the rate is that of an adult, but they cannot taste the wine, only musts. The duration of all activities is approximate.

Azofra

The history of this building dates from the end of the 17th century, when Don Tomás de Alonso de Ojeda y Tejada ordered the building of this atypical mansion, according to the Certificación de Armas y Ejecutoria de Nobleza del año 1739 and which is currently exhibited in one of the hotel showcases.

At first glance, we could highlight the two coats of arms on the main door, both Rococo style, and in a good state of conservation, showing us the ancientand noble lineage of the Alonso de Ojeda y Tejada family, which played a very important role in the history and culture of the Valley of cañas, due to their close relationship with Don Zenón de Bengoechea, better known as Marquis of la Ensenada.

It is interesting to mention that the current name of the hotel comes from three sisters: Doña Matilde, Doña Enriqueta and Doña Aurora, owners of the House until 1970, still known popularly in Azofra as "Las Amas" (The Housekeepers). Later, their niece and current owner Doña María Concepción Gil Lang, descendant of Alonso de Ojeda and Tejada inherited the House and decided decided to turn it into a designer hotel with her son Enrique Palacio Gil.Real Casona de Las Amas offers its guests the following services:
- Parking
- Cafeteria
- Restaurant (exclusive for guests, only dinners)
- Biblioteca
- Spa
- Internet with cable or WI-FI in all common areas
- Lavandería
- Outdoor swimming pool with counter-current jet
- Solarium
