The town appears in the Nájera charter of 1137. In 1317, King Alfonso XI allowed the 20 inhabitants to count themselves as 15 for the purpose of paying their contributions as they were so poor.

-Surrounding area: On Santitas hill there is a chapel dedicated to Santa Nunila and Santa Alodia, who it is thought were born in Bezares. It is an extremely beautiful spot with gentle hills, mild weather and pure air.

The town's first historic document dates back to 1082, when the knight Sancho Petriz and his brothers gave vines to San Millán to help the soul of another deceased brother. It was one of the villages given in 1396 by Iñigo Ortiz of Zúñiga to his son, Diego, on his marriage to Juana, the illegitimate daughter of King Carlos III of Navarre.
