About Bodegas Franco-Españolas

Bodegas Franco-Españolas was founded in 1890 and is celebrating its 125 years of history in 2015. It is one of the great historic wineries in a wine region known for its great brands that guarantee their career, such as Rioja Bordon, Diamante and Viña Soledad. It is a winner of the "Best of wine tourism" award in innovative experiences for the creativity and originality of the activities organized in wine tourism.

Bodegas Franco-Españolas is one of the great historic wineries of La Rioja and the only one located in the centre of the city of Logroño. Discovering this winery is almost like doing a crash course on the history of Spanish wine as its philosophy since the 19th century has been based in adapting to trends without ever giving up the typicity, producing renowned wine brands such as: Rioja Bordón, Diamante Viña Soledad and Barón d'Anglade. The creation of the winery was the indirect result of one of the most unfortunate incidents in the wine history of France, the phylloxera pest in the 19th century. From there, they chose the land of La Rioja to produce great wines. It was the Bordeaux negociant Frederick Anglade who, together with Spanish partners, founded the winery in 1890: Franco-Españolas in 1890 (Franco = French capital and Españolas = Spanish capital). Thus began a history which, after passing through several stages, has become a project that is consolidated both domestically and internationally.
